Brandon McCormick has been in the pits since 1984, helping stepdad Daryl Capps with his Late Model racing adventures. But in 1998, Daryl gave up the wheel and put Brandon in the car with no previous racing experience. His first year racing at Dallas County Speedway in Urbana, Mo., Brandon won four features.

He went on to win the track championship in 2000 and in 2001 won the Wheatland Raceway track championship. Brandon went on to race with the MLRA series, winning Rookie of the Year in 2002. He also moved up to MARS and won the 2004 and 2006 sportsmanship awards. In 2007 after switching from a GRT race car to a CJ Rayburn, Brandon was named the MARS Hard Charger and Most Improved Driver.

Brandon watched area drivers like Larry Phillips, Kenny Essary and Billy Moyer when he was growing up, and Daryl still tutors his protegé as the crew chief and car owner. Brandon said he likes the style of NASCAR's Jeff Burton who is tough on the track but a true sportsman.

On June 18, 1993, Brandon married his high school sweetheart, Melissa, who is a radiation therapist in Lake Ozark. The couple are entertained by their golden retriever puppy, Speedy.

When he's not racing, Brandon likes to go deer hunting and fishing. He will catch an occasional round of golf and is a St. Louis Cardinals fan.

After the races, head down to the No. 42 pit and get Brandon's autograph or chat with him. He knows how important fans are to the sport, and loves talking with everyone.
